“It was last summer when my neighbours rented a cabin on the lake to spend a few days away,” said the woman, sitting on the psychiatrist’s couch.
“Continue,” the doctor said, listening carefully and insightfully.
“I recommended them think twice because the forecast called for harsh weather. However, they called me a spoilsport and even made fun of me, so I didn’t insist and stayed silent.”
The doctor continued writing in his notebook.
“They finally packed up and left, leaving her young daughter in the care of her grandmother. They planned to join a group of divers they belonged to to explore the bottom of the lake.”
“Very interesting, continue,” the doctor responded.
“I told them it was risky, there were many strange stories told about that lake. It was said that a huge fish lived in its waters for centuries, guarding the remains of a pirate ship that lies at the bottom of the lake.”
“Uhum,” the doctor murmured.
“But they didn’t listen to me anyway,” the woman said.
“Okay, tell me something, ma’am. Apart from the displeasure of not taking your advice into account, what is the reason that brought you to my clinic?” The doctor asked curiously.
“Well, you see, doctor,” the woman said, “the day after they left, I was sun-drying my clothes when, in the middle of a sunny day, I saw lightning strike right at my neighbour’s house. It was so powerful that incinerated the house in just a few minutes. There was no time for anything! From the sparks, a coin with a skull engraved jumped and landed right at the door of my house,” said the nervous woman.
“Unbelievable!” The doctor exclaimed.
“Also, the neighbours never came back from the lake and I have terrible nightmares about that sinister coin.”
